We have prepared three designs, each of which includes one design for the scroll cover and a second for a curtain for the ark. If a design is chosen quickly, we expect that it will be possible to complete any of these designs prior to the first bar mitzvah, July 24.
Please click on the thumbnail images to see larger pictures of each design. Slight variations in the ratio of height to width in the designs are not important; please ignore them! The ratio in the third pair of images is actually correct; the other two are a bit too wide.

1. Sunrise patchwork
The scroll cover in this design would be a detailed patchwork representing the sun rising over the ocean, with its reflection in the water. The patchwork would continue
around the back of the scroll cover.
The ark curtain in this design would be a solid blue with a few simple stars in patchwork just visible in slightly contrasting colors. Because the patchwork will take a good bit of time to make, we can only plan on making a simple curtain if we want to finish the work before the first bar mitzvah (July 24). If desired, at some point in the future we could make a more complex curtain, possibly one including some text as well as images.

2. Sky blue patchwork
The scroll cover in this design would be a detailed patchwork representing the sky, with subtle stars of David worked into the pattern. The patchwork would continue
around the back of the scroll cover.
As in the previous example, the ark curtain in this design would be a solid blue with a few simple stars in patchwork just visible in slightly contrasting colors. The same time constraints come into play here as with the previous designs; if desired, we could create a more complex curtain in the future. One possibility would be for one patchwork scroll design to become a scroll cover, and the other to be used for a future curtain. If you like that idea, please let us know which one you think would be the scroll cover and which one would be the curtain.

3. Narrows and gannets line drawing
The ark curtain in this design would be a simple line drawing showing a view through the Narrows to the sea. In the sky a single gannet flies. The sky is somewhat light - perhaps dusk? (Please note - the "dotted line" character of the curtain image is an artifact of the digital image - the lines should appear continuous.)
The curtain is opened to reveal a closer view of the gannet, in a darker sky. The bird holds a banner in his mouth with words in Hebrew and English - we're still thinking about what will be written on the banner. (Your suggestions would be welcome!) Since this design would take less time to execute than the preceding two, we can complete both of these before late July without problem.
